The conference venue is Hotel Taikanso at Matsushima, a resort hotel near Sendai.

The Conference Hotels

We prepare various types of rooms are available at conference rate at Hotel Taikanso and Folkloro Matsushima. You can make hotel reservation from this site.

It takes 20 to 30 minutes from Folkloro to Taikanso. However, the road is very slippy in winter season. Therefore, it is better to stay at Taikanso (conference venue) or to use shuttle bus from Folkloro. We will prepare buses between Folkloro and Taikanso. From Matsuhima-kaigan station, there are buses which go round among the hotels. This bus costs 100 yen.

Special discount will be provided for young researchers and students. We are also preparing the student grants. Please visit the page of student grants.

The access information to EMO from the airports

The followings are the information of the access to EMO from the airports. This information will be updated irregularly. Please take the latest information before your departure.

In Japan, there are several international airports including

  • Narita(Tokyo),
  • Chubu(Nagoya).

We guess that most of participants will come from Narita or Chubu. In this information, we will inform you how to access to EMO-2007 (Taikanso) from Narita or Chubu. If you arrive at another international airport, we can supprot you to access to EMO-2007. In this case, please contact to emo07-info@is.doshisha.ac.jp.

*** From Narita (Tokyo) Airport ***

You have several possibilities to go to Taikanso. Maybe, the followings are convenient ways for you.
  1. Narita Airport >> Sendai Airport (by air) >> Taikanso (by shuttle bus)
  2. Narita Airport >> Sendai Airport (by air) >> Sendai Station (by shuttle bus) ар Matsushima-Kaigan Station (by train) ар Taikanso (by bus)
  3. Narita Airport >> Ueno Station (by train) >> Sendai Station (by bullet train) >> Matsushima-Kaigan Station (by train) >> Taikanso (by bus)
  4. Narita Airport >> Tokyo Statin (by train) >> Sendai Station (by bullet train) ар Matsushima-Kaigan Station (by train) ар Taikanso (by bus)

Narita (Tokyo) Airport is one of the biggest international airport in Japan. However, there is a few domestic flights to Sendai Airport. If you cannot reserve a flight from Narita Airport to Sendai Airport, please try to researve another flight to Chubu (Nagoya) or others. From Narita (Tokyo) Airport

Narita Airport has two terminals called  Terminal 1 and  Terminal 2 . See http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/index.html. According to the airline you use, the arrival terminal is different.

*** Option 1 *** (about 17700 Japanese yen)

  1. Narita Airport to Sendai Airport by air There is one domestic airline, i.e. ANA (All Nippon Airways: NH).The terminal of ANA is  Terminal 1 . Since an aircraft is small, it is better to reserve your seat as soon as possible. It costs 16200 Japanese yen (Normal fare).

    The following flights can be used.

    • NH 3131: Narita 10:30 >> Sendai 11:35
    • NH 3235: Narita 16:55 >> Sendai 18:10

  2. Sendai Airport to Taikanso by shuttle bus Sendai Airport has two terminals called  Domestic flight terminal and  International flight terminal . Even if Sendai Airport has  International flight terminal , most of participants will arrive at  Domestic flight terminal because an international flight is few.

    Go out of the terminal building. Then you can find bus stops. Three bus stops are in front of the terminal building. To go to Taikanso, please take a shuttle bus bound for Matsushima Station from the bus stop indicating  3 . A shuttle bus is operated by Nihonsankei Bus. It takes about 70 minutes from Sendai Airport to Taikanso. It costs 1500 Japanese yen. To take the shuttle bus, you are requested to researve a seat 3 days before your ride and go to the bus stop 15 minutes before the departure. *** Option 2 *** (about 17610 Japanese yen)

It costs 910 Japanese yen. Before taking a bus, please buy a ticket from a ticket machine near the bus stop.

    As of 31st, Jan., 2007, the timetable is as follows:
    8:55, 9:25, 9:30, 9:35, 9:50, 10:10, 11:05, 11:35, 11:45, 12:25, 12:50, 12:55, 13:05, 14:10, 14:15, 14:25, 15:10, 15:15, 16:00, 16:55, 17:10, 17:15, 17:20, 17:50, 18:05, 18:25, 18:30, 18:40, 18:55, 19:40, 19:55, 20:05, 20:15, 20:45, 21:10, 21:15, 21:20, 21:25.

  3. Sendai Station to Matsushima-Kaigan Station by train The shuttle bus will arrive at the front of Sendai Station (West exit). You can easily find out Sendai Station. At the station, please buy a ticket from Sendai Station to Matsushima-Kaigan Station. It costs 400 Japanese yen. Then, pass the central entrance and the platforms 1-8. Thereafter, you can find out the escalator for Senseki-line. To go to Matsushima-Kaigan, please take a train bound for Ishinomaki at Platform 10. About every 30 minutes, a train bound for Ishinomaki will depart from Sendai Station. It takes about 40 minutes from Sendai Station to Matsushima-Kaigan Station.

  4. Matsuhima-Kaigan Station to Taikanso by bus Matsushima-Kaigan Station is very small station. Maybe, it is impossible to loose your way in Matsushima-Kaigan Station. After passing the exit (only one exit in Matsushima-Kaigan Station), you can find a bus stop in front of you. Please take a bus to Taikanso. It costs 100 Japanese yen. When you take a bus, please give 100 Japanese yen to a driver.

*** Option 3 *** (about 12410 Japanese yen)

    Each terminal in Narita Airport has a station at underground level. The station name of Terminal 1 is  Narita-Kuko and the one of Terminal 2 is  Kuko-Dai2 building . Both stations are shared by Japan Railway Company (JR) and Keisei Electric Railway.

  1. Narita Airport to Keisei-Ueno Station Take a train called  Skyliner bound for Keisei-Ueno station operated by Keisei Electric Railway. It takes about 1hour. From 9:23 to 22:00, the skyliner will depart from Narita Airport to Keisei-Ueno about every 30 minutes. It costs 1920 Japanese yen. To take the Skyliner, please buy a ticket at a Keisei ticket counter at underground level before taking a train. See http://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/keisei_us/top.html.
  2. At Ueno Station Change trains at Ueno Station. If you use Skyliner, you will arrive at Keisei-Ueno station as a final stop. Thereafter, go to JR-Ueno station. JR-Ueno station is very near from Keisei-Ueno station. It is easy to find out JR-Ueno-station. Please simply follow the sign of JR. It takes about 5 minutes at most.
  3. Ueno Station to Sendai Station Take a bullet train (Tohoku-Shinkansen, Akita-Shinkansen) from Platform 19 or 20 at 4th undergrand level. Don t take a bullet train (Joetsu-Shinkansen, Nagano-Shinkansen) which will bring you to completely different area. The name of a bullet train you should take is  Yamabiko ,  Hayate ,  Max-Yamabiko ,  Komachi or  Tsubasa . It takes about one and half hours from Ueno Station to Sendai Station. Before taking a train, please buy a ticket from Ueno Station to Matsushima-Kaigan Station. It costs about 10900 Japanese yen. A bullet train will depart about every 20 minutes.
  4. Sendai Station to Matsushima-Kaigan Station by train The bullet train will arrive at the platform 11 or 12 of Sendai Station. You can easily find out the transfer exit (from a bullet train to a local train). Then, pass the transfer exit and the platforms 1-8. Thereafter, you can find out the escalator for Senseki-line. To go to Matsushima-Kaigan, please take a train bound for Ishinomaki at Platform 10. About every 30 minutes, a train bound for Ishinomaki will depart from Sendai Station. It takes about 40 minutes from Sendai Station to Matsushima-Kaigan Station.
  5. Matsuhima-Kaigan Station to Taikanso by bus Matsushima-Kaigan Station is very small station. Maybe, it is impossible to loose your way in Matsushima-Kaigan Station. After passing the exit (only one exit in Matsushima-Kaigan Station), you can find a bus stop in front of you. Please take a bus to Taikanso. It costs 100 Japanese yen. When you take a bus, please give 100 Japanese yen to a driver.

*** Option 4 *** (about 14110 Japanese yen)

    Each terminal in Narita Airport has a station at underground level. The station name of Terminal 1 is  Narita-Kuko and the one of Terminal 2 is  Kuko-Dai2 building . Both stations are shared by Japan Railway Company (JR) and Keisei Electric Railway.

  1. Narita Airport to Tokyo Station by train. Take a train called  Narita Express bound for Ikebukuro, Shinjuku, Yokohama, Ofuna, Omiya or Takao. It takes about 1 hour. From 07:42 to 21:43, the Narita express will depart from Narita Airport to Tokyo station about every 30 minutes. Before taking a train, please buy a ticket at a JR ticket counter. Please buy a ticket from Narita Airport station to Matsushima-Kaigan station including Narita Express ticket and bullet train ticket. It costs about 13610 Japanese yen.
  2. At Tokyo Station Change trains at Tokyo Station. Tokyo Station is one of the largest station in Japan. There are several platforms. Please check the sign of Tohoku Shinkansen. The platform number is 20-23.
  3. Tokyo Station to Sendai Station by bullet train. Take a bullet train (Tohoku-Shinkansen, Akita-Shinkansen) from Platform 20, 21, 22 or 23. Don t take a bullet train (Joetsu-Shinkansen, Nagano-Shinkansen, Tokaido-Shinkansen, Sanyo-Shinkansen) which will bring you to completely different area. The name of a bullet train you should take is  Yamabiko ,  Hayate ,  Max-Yamabiko ,  Komachi or  Tsubasa . It takes about one hour and 40 minutes from Tokyo Station to Sendai Station. A bullet train will depart about every 20 minutes.

Chubu Airport, called  Centrair , has one terminal. The second floor is an arrival lobby and the third one is a departure lobby. See http://www.centrair.jp/en/index.html. The terminal is very simple.

  1. Nagoya Airport to Sendai Airport by air. There are two domestic airlines, i.e. ANA (All Nippon Airways: NH) and JAL Express (Japan Airlines Express: JEX). It cost 25700 Japanese yen (Normal fare).
